In a Dilemma? Make Decisions Using this Simple Free Tool

When the criteria/attribute can be described in terms of levels like 'Low', 'Good' or 'Excellent', the five-point scale given below should be used for adding the information of the alternatives. Similarly, if you can describe a criterion or an attribute in levels like 'Very Low', 'Low', 'Medium', 'High' and 'Very High', you can use the same five-point scale while adding the information of alternatives for that criterion/attribute. You can also use a ten-point or a hundred point scale as per your requirement.

In the table database below, the information about the considered alternatives should be added. Up to 10 alternatives can be added and compared using this template. Also, up to 10 different criteria or attributes can be used to assess the alternatives and rank them.

Steps for using Decision Matrix NotionĀ Template

Follow the steps to reach the final decision of selecting one from a set of alternatives using the Notion template.

Step 1

List all the available alternatives and put them in columns. Brainstorm and select the criteria based on which the alternatives will be assessed and put the names in the rows.

Step 2

The next step is to work out the relative importance of the criteria using a five-point, a ten-point or a percentage scale and assigning weights. Here, the lowest value means that the criterion does not have much importance in the final decision, and the highest value means that it is extremely important. Multiple criteria can have equal importance and weight. You can leave the weight column empty if you want to use the unweighted decision matrix.

Step 3

Next, work your way along the row of the database table, scoring each alternative for each of the considered criteria. Score each alternative using a five-point, a ten-point or a hundred-point scale. You can start from 0 or 1 to 5, 10 or 100. Multiple alternatives can have the same score for a particular criterion.

Step 4

The template will multiply the individual scores by the criteria weights and will calculate the total score. Check the 'Total Score' table and make the final decision based on the alternative having the highest score.
